Outlook Email configuration

Steps to add your Tela email account to Microsoft Outlook 2016 (PC).
Please follow all steps to insure correct operation.

  1. Open Microsoft Outlook.
  2. Click Next on welcome screen.
  3. Click 'Yes' to connect to an email account, then click Next.
  4. Click the radio button 'Manual setup or additional server types' and click Next.
  5. Click the radio button 'POP or IMAP' and click Next.
  6. Fill in your name, email address, account type: IMAP.
  7. Fill in incoming mail server: mail.tela.com.
  8. Fill in outgoing mail server: mail.tela.com.
  9. Fill in logon information, user name: same as email address, password: use your email password
  10. Click 'remember password' checkbox and UNCHECK 'Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA). Click More Settings button.
  11. On the Internet Email Settings panel, click the 'Outgoing Server' tab and click 'My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication' and 'Use same settings as my incoming mail server'.
  12. Click the 'advanced' tab and under Incoming server (IMAP), choose the type of encrypted connection: SSL/TLS. Verify that the Incoming server (IMAP) port number is 993.
  13. Under Outgoing server (SMTP), choose the type of encrypted connection: SSL/TLS. Change the outgoing server port number from 25 to 465.
    NOTE: If SSL/TLS does not work for outgoing mail, try type of encrypted connection: STARTTLS and outgoing server port number 587.
  14. Click OK button.
  15. Click Next Button.
  16. Account should be set up. Choose 'set up outlook mobile on my phone' as you wish. Click Finish.
  17. Use the 'Test Account Settings' button on the account settings panel to verify email settings.

To check SSL/TLS Settings in Outlook 2016:

  1. Open Microsoft Outlook.
  2. Click the 'File' menu at the top left, then click 'Info'.
  3. In the 'Account Information' Section, click 'Account Settings', then click 'Add and remove accounts or change existing connection settings.
  4. Click the 'Email' tab on the 'Account Settings' panel.
  5. Click the desired email account if more than one listed.
  6. Click the 'Change' menu item.
  7. Verify your name, email address,
    account type: IMAP or POP,
    incoming mail server: mail.tela.com
    outgoing mail server: mail.tela.com
    User name: (same as your email address)
    Password: (should be filled in)
    Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) should be OFF
  8. Click 'More Settings'
  9. On the Internet Email Settings panel, click the 'Outgoing Server' tab and verify that 'My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication' and 'Use same settings as my incoming mail server' are checked.
  10. Click the 'advanced' tab and under Incoming server (IMAP), verify the type of encrypted connection: SSL/TLS. Verify that the Incoming server (IMAP) port number is 993. If you are using POP, the incoming server port number is 995.
  11. Under Outgoing server (SMTP), verify the type of encrypted connection: SSL/TLS. Change the outgoing server port number from 25 to 465.
    NOTE: If SSL/TLS does not work for outgoing mail, try type of encrypted connection: STARTTLS and outgoing server port number 587.
  12. Click OK button.
  13. Click Next Button. Settings will be verified. Click Close on Test account settings panel.
  14. If you get an error message regarding security settings or SSL/TLS, please review the SSL/TLS settings and port numbers. If you get an error message regarding your username or password, please review your username and password on the account settings panel.
  15. Click Finish.
  16. Click Close on the Account Settings panel.
